Although it is not a complete replacement for a full 5.1 surround system, it is much more affordable and simple to setup. There are three 3.25" main drivers, 40 watt amplifier and a powerful subwoofer all contained within the unit, but there is an output for optional external subwoofer. The speakers use powerful Neodymium models and solid metal phase plugs for improved sound quality and dispersion, and the cabinet is made of MDF (medium density fiberboard), the same material uses in most high-end loudspeakers. The ZVOX 315 is made to be as easy to use and setup as possible. Once plugged in, it will automatically turn on after the audio source is powered up, and return to idle mode once the source has been turned off. There is no remote control, so the TV being used must have audio outputs that can be set to "variable" in order to use the TV remote to control the TV/315 volume output. There is a volume control on the rear of the device, but this is not convenient for everyday use. For TVs without variable output, it is suggested to use the ZVOX 325 or ZVOX Mini, which both have their own remotes. There are two mini-jack 3.5 mm inputs which are auto mixed. There is a 3.5mm/3.5mm cable and 3.5mm/RCA cable included.
