This vintage Pittsburgh Penguins jersey is not vintage in its technology since it is made with the new RBK Edge materials. This powder blue version of the pens jersey was worn from 1968-69 through 1972-73, and they haven't worn powder blue since switching to black and gold in 1980.
The NHL unveiled that the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres will wear vintage jerseys during the AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic on New Year's day 2008. This will be the NHL's first regular-season outdoor game in the United States. The Winter Classic Vintage edition jerseys for both Pittsburgh and Buffalo are available for purchase in replica form on Shop.NHL.com.

#rbk_edge_pittsburgh_penguins_retro_jersey The 71,217 fans who packed Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo for the NHL Winter Classic were treated to a true outdoor hockey game as the falling snow accumulated on the ice throughout the first period. Many a "dry scrape" and ice-patchwork with canned CO2 delayed much of the game, but the Penguins came away the winners as Sidney Crosby's shootout winning goal lifted the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

#rbk_edge_pittsburgh_penguins_retro_jersey The "Winter Classic" will be the first US outdoor regular season game, but an outdoor regular season game was played in Canada a couple of years ago in Edmonton, with the Oilers playing the Montreal Canadians (both teams also wearing vintage jerseys, and tuques since it was about -25 C that day).
