Platypus Reusable Water Bottle

$8.00

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Collapsible design is very cool. Very lightweight. Can be heated and frozen.

The Cons:Not dishwasher safe. Not totally leak proof. Difficult to fill at some place.

The Platypus is a reusable water bottle that replaces your bottled water habit. The bottled water industry has grown exponentially over the last few years, which has resulted in a significant environmental impact.

The first issue is the oil required to manufacture the bottles - 1.5 million barrels in the US per ear. The second issue is the landfill repercussions as 8 out of 10 bottles do not get recycled. For these reasons, a durable and reusable water bottle is a great option for people who carry water with them while running errands or playing sports.

The Platypus water bottle is made from polypropylene plastic and weighs 80% less than a standard reusable hard-plastic bottle such as the Nalgene water bottles. The Platypus is collapsible when empty for easy storage and comes in a variety of sizes ranging in capacity from 0.5L to 2L and weighing between 20 and 30 grams.

Platypus features

  • Can be boiled or frozen
  • Gusseted bottom keeps bottle upright
  • Fits in standard cup holders and bike bottle holders
  • Easy to clean (though not recommended for the dishwasher)
  • Modular design allows you to choose the type of spout and size
  • Polypropylene is considered a safe plastic for food storage

Amanie: #platypus_reusable_water_bottle True, but once the bottle is empty you don't have to lug around a lot of extra weight - not to mention the space saving. Aug 29, 07

Erik: #platypus_reusable_water_bottle What's the big deal about it being lightweight? Once there is water in it, the water itself is by far the heaviest part. The savings of a 100 g or so difference doesn't really matter. Aug 29, 07

dakalvia: #platypus_reusable_water_bottle I have a Platypus water "bottle" (more like bag) that is a camel-back. It fits flat in my backpack with a tube that runs out with a one-way valve so you can drink while biking/hiking/etc. I am pleased with it....works great, no plastic taste, and holds a litre. Suprisingly keeps the water temperature realtively cold as well. Aug 27, 07

Amanie: #platypus_reusable_water_bottle I can't stand the plastic taste that comes with a lot of reusable water bottles so I'm up for trying this one. I appreciate the collapsible design. Aug 23, 07
