Nalgene was one of the first companies to expound the virtues of drinking water continuously throughout the day. However, much to their chagrin, the bottled water industry took off, causing a significant environmental impact and ignoring a major component to their message - drinking the water from a reusable container.

Product Shot 2 Nalgene's are renowned for their leak-proof system with lids that mate perfectly with the bottle itself. Each bottle is made from polycarbonate plastic - a somewhat controversial issue due to studies that found the hazardous bishenol A can leachate into the water. Although this issue requires further study, Nalgene continues to be the leader in the reusable bottle market. For an alternative, the Platypus water bottle uses polypropylene plastic which has proven to be a less contentious option.

Nalgene features

  • Dishwasher safe
  • Durable plastic
  • leak-proof
  • able to withstand temperatures from -135°C to +135°C

beetwozero: #nalgene_wide_mouth_bottle If you find the water dripping down the sides of your mouth, as I did, I can recommend the little splashguard thingies (there are several brands) at you can buy at outdoor stores for about $3. They're plastic molded discs (some are rubbery, the rubbery ones tend to keep the taste of what you've been drinking) that fit in the wide mouth of the bottle and create a sort of a spout that makes it much easier to drink out of. They don't interfere with the bottle closing, so you just put it in the mouth and forget about it. I like mine. Aug 26, 07
